A trillion dollars of reserve could be best used on Research. Finding alternate sources of energy and minimalising pollution and waste management could mean an end to global warming. Research into ways by which poverty can be controlled and eliminated in underdeveloped countries will make the world a better place to live in sans genocide and terrorism.
In the case of recession a trillion dollars would be godsent! Pumping in that much of money would surely revive the economy from its temporary slump.
As for who might own this much of money its quite an easy guess, Bill Gates.

Wow a trillion dollars. I could certainly use that money. Firstly i'll probably invest a little and spend some for my own pleasure!

In a world recession, it simply means that the economy is not active. Economically speaking, i would pump in about $5 billion dollars to jump start the economy either thru Investments (I) or Consumption (C). Since these 2 components are important in the Aggregate Expenditure (AE), an increase in one component ceteris paribus, will lead to a multiple effect and increase the world's national income.

Just to add something, in world recession, one of the ways to solve it is to spend spend and SPEND (Consumption) to keep the economy active! The more you save during a recession, the longer and harder will it be to solve the recession!

Checklist for a trillion.
First, count it. If it takes 2.74 years to spend a million @1000$ a day(1000$ x 1000 days), I could spend a million dollars a day in the same amount of time and fritter away a billion. But spending a trillion dollars @ a million a day would take me two-thousand,seven-hundred and forty years.
A million just doesn't go as far as it used to, but I'd be hard pressed to give away half daily (500,000,000).
And the rest? Cheap Art and cheaper music.

With a trillion dollars I would take in as many orphan children as I could manage to take care of.
