I've never been to an American Audition because I live in Romania, but I have seen it many times on TV and online.
I'm a singer too so I could give you a few hints: I know you'll have to wait for hours before you get in, so bring water (but don't drink too much just before you go in), light food and decent clothes - a pair of blue jeans and a nice t-shirt should do the trick.
If you are nervous, try not to let it show. Look straight ahead and sing the best you can.
Song choice? Not too easy and not too fancy. Don't choose very famous songs, go for original ones. Try to find one that makes your voice sound at ease. Good luck!

for what to sing i would recommend Slide or Thankyou both by Dido to show off your vocals. Have 2 songs prepared incase the judges for some reason hate the first. Drink lots of water and no milk. If camping out isn't neccessary i then i wouldn't do it. you want to look your best so as to impress the judges (even though u wont be seeing Paula, Randy and Simon first) I wish you the best of luck!

I've never done it, but I would sing a song that will show your voice range.
