...the equivallent of the local pub in this community? It's always the best place to hang out, though it oftens smells of stale beer and smoke, and everyone seems to rub along pretty well...

Oh yes! An excellent comparison. I wouldn't swap it for a night at the local though, it's lacking the beer!

I think I'll go there and spend some time ... sounds a lot more fun than the religion and spirituality section which only depresses me.
