what kind of people is the I.T industry looking for. Is there a shortage in a specific area.

To be honest it all depends on what area of IT intrests you or you are good at. It's hard to be good at everything. If you want to get into the maintenance side then A+ is a good course. For databases you really need to do a degree. For programming try Computach r you local college.

I used to think a degree was good, but now I'm beginning to think that a good NVQ or HND is worth more - you can apply for the starter jobs more easily with one of the lower qualifications and work your way up. I think degrees tend to put employers off if it's a starter job, as they might think you over-qualified and likely to leave quite quickly for something better. If you go the degree route then you join the rat race with the thousands of other graduates, probably end up working in some stinking city centre office doing the same kind of work that you would with just the NVQ anyway.

Oh and for the subject, well I'd say a general computing course would be good, or if there's a specific area that you think you'd enjoy then do that. Don't do media studies though as that really is a dead horse! People always need database administrators, good money in that too.
