I am a security guard and I make good money doing it. So if I am depicted as a loser, that is okay.
The problem is some security guards are retired police officers or want-to-be police officers. There is a difference in the job description of the two jobs:
Security observes and reports
Police observe and react.
I do everything a police officer does except arrest people, but the big difference is when things get tough, I call the police.

Well, the only security guards I see lately that look like losers are the ones at Wal-mart. They seem to hire a lot of really fat men and they often have dirty shirts on. I never see them do anything but drive around in their little cart. And half the time, they are parked in a shady spot smoking.
I am sure they aren't all losers, it's just that people seem to notice the ones that are more. Normal people stick out less.

they get poked fun at because it seems a lot of them seem to think that they are police not security guards, or so to say the have very swollen egos when in all reality they are not offical law inforcers they are only people hired to help prevent unlawfull events not procecute or percecute legal actions....so basically people depict them as losers because theysay they arent good enough to be a "real" policeman only a security guard.....thats my interpritation of it

This is an economic phenomena so that employers will not have to pay for the real services that security delivers. I predict, however in the future this career field will become more important, better paid and better trained.

Im not sure, maybe its because of the size of the men, and the dykish ways of the women (no offence anyone please...) and i think big guys are deemed to be stupid in some way, think of the cartoons and kids movies you watched as a kid, the big fat thug/baddie/robber was always dumb, and the short skinny one was behind the conspiracy! lol. but its true, i dont think they are seen as loosers, just not very bright! well anyone who would put there life in danger or work them hours for almost nothing, has to be lacking in somethng, somewhere!

I think it is an unfair stereotype that probably happens because they lack the authority of law enforcement officers.
