If you keep checking the Disney World website, you can find some good deals. Usually around May they offer a deal for the September timeframe where you can get the Disney Dining plan for free. You stay at a value resort on Disney property, there is free transportation from the airport to the resort and from all the resorts to each Disney park. Packages are usually for 6 days/5 nights. It includes park admission. (but not airfare) This is the second year that I am using this.
I book the vacation through Disney for the room, tickets and dining plan. Then I use my own airline of choice (i usually can find a better deal rather than booking air through Disney), then I just call Disney with my flight info so they know when I will be arriving.
It is usually around $450 per person for the Disney package.(Not bad when this also includes 2 meals per night you are staying.) Last year my son and I went and we were able to eat at many of the higher priced restaurants that we wouldn't have been able to try if I had been paying outright.
I like to stay on Disney property because if we are just going to Disney World (not Universal, Sea World or other attractions) there is no need to rent a car. Big savings there.
If you do find a less expensive hotel off property (and I am sure you can) Try to spread your costs out by purchasing your tickets to Disney and/or Universal ahead of time. If you belong to AAA you can get some good deals on the tickets, and also directly through the websites of Disney & Universal. Also, if you have a Disney Store nearby, tickets can be purchased there. One word of advice regarding the Park Hopper option. If you think you might spend an entire day at each park, don't bother with this option. Many people really like it, but it is a matter of personal choice. I bought it in 2004 and we never even used the option, so it was a waste for us.
By the way, regarding the first person's answer, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea is no longer at Disney World.

You can go for fairly cheap. Just buy a discount package w/ mealplan- then you live like a king eating Filet Mignon everynight without paying another dime! Best hotels:
Deluxe- Animal Kingdon Lodge or Polynesian
Moderate- Port Orleans French Quarters
Here is a current special:
Rates begin at $355 per adult (based on double occupancy), $217 per junior and $176 per child for a 5 night/6 day stay at a Disney Value Resort with a 6 day basic Magic Your Way Ticket. The sample rates will vary depending on the "season" you plan your vacation. This offer is subject to availability. For an official no-obligation quote, click here
They always have specials going on. The best web site for all things Disney is:
http://www.wdwinfo.com/
This board is used mostly by adults- seperate area for teens. If you post a question in their forum you will get several intelligent answers in just minutes. They also keep a very thorough and accurate list of all Disney discounts available. $4000 should be plenty!

The best advice is to order the DIsney Vacation Package. It has a DVD or VHS,a computer inter-active DVD-ROM.
I have been to Disney over 40 times. My folks took me there in 1972 the day or week of the grand opening.I have been going there, twice a year, since 1983.
The best time is in Oct. for the Food and Wine festival (in Epcot)
I would strongly recommend getting the "Disney My Way package".It is an ALL inclusive "card",that ea. family member gets, that allows one to get breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, drink, and dinner, desert and a alcoholic beverage. The charts on the food kiosks will have the "wdmw" symbols so as you know what you get "Free".You have to stay at a Disney Resort to be able to do the package.I would HIGHLY recommend staying at THe Animal Kingdom Lodge!. And Book a room on the Seranghetti plain. You will LOVE IT!!
If you have never been to the parks,Well, The Majic Kingdom is very traditional and timeless.EPCOT is very educational and has some cool rides! (Test Track, Mission Space are NOT to miss!)
A week would be tops for me.There are OTHER local attractions I go to,Try Old Town in Kissimmee,Cypress Garden's, in Winter Haven.The Bok Tower and Gardens,in Lake Wales,Fantasy of Flight,in Haines City.Of Course,you got Universal,Disneys MGM,Sea World,Disneys Boardwalk,Island of Adventures,Pleasure Island.
TOO much to see? I would recommend getting my favorite book,The UN official Guide to Disney World .It is a NON sugar coated book of all the ratings, must see's, Disney with kids, things to AVOID.
Lastely. My favorite is Epcot. If you go there,Book a reservation at many of the Full service restaurants in one of the countries.I LOVE Morraco, and Mexico.Norway is kinda bland,Germany is LOUD and brash,Canada is like a dark cave.France has 2 Restaurants,Both are eligant.Japan has 3,sushi bar,and several Beni-Hana" like rooms.
Do not know how much you'll spend,But if you follow my guidelines, you will enjoy it.

Check online. Disney offers packages, and since you plan on staying a week, their packages will keep you busy. Disney resorts are very nice as well, and depending on which resort you choose, prices can be very reasonable. Staying inside Disney is a definite must. They have buses, monorails, and boats to take you where you want to go. You don't have to drive anywhere. If you get tired in the middle of the day, you can simply catch the bus and go back to your room for a nap.
I definitely would not go in the summer. Summer in Florida is hot and humid. Try to skip holidays and Spring Break as well. To me, the Fall is the best time to go. It's still warm enough to go swimming but not sweltering.
As far as your girls, they will love the Magic Kingdom the best. Epcot is more adult oriented, and MGM and Animal Kingdom don't have as many rides.

well this is a good time to go, and you need to stay in orlando at a days inn or some place in town, If you stay on ground its very high, wasite of money, As far as the Park, Ive been there alot of times.,, The best ride is Space Mountian, and 2000 leags under the sea, and of course the Hunted Manson., And dont miss Pirites of the carabean. youll love the boat ride, not the main boat ride, Pirites has a indoor ride. So if you see this youve seen most of the best that I know of., they have new ones all the time. like they were building the MOuntian ride I hear that one is good,. And then after you see that. Go to Epico I hear thats cool. but for the
Girls its the reg Park. its for the Kids, And ya you got enough to go and have a good time.

I went in March with a family of 5 and it ran me about 3,800, but i stayed off property in a cheaper hotel. I went to wal mart to get food for the hotel room for us to eat for breakfast and snacks. I also saved money by buying my disney t shirts for the kids from wal mart and not in the parks, they cost about 1/3 as much. We only ate lunch and a snack in the parks, eating in our hotel or grabbing something from mc donalds for breakfast and then eating dinner after leaving the parks. Disney is not really set up for larger families as far as hotel accomodations are concerned so i found it much cheaper to stay off property. There are tons of hotels in the area, here is a link to where we stayed its basic but after all we spent most of our time in the parks, not sitting in the hotel.

with a little planning you should be able to stay about a full week. We only stayed four days but ive noticed that certian times of the year Disney offers deals on hotels so if you are going during the non peak season you may be able to get a decent deal on a disney hotel. If you do stay on property do some reasearch on the dining plan. Here are two links that may help you find other ways to save some money on your trip.

this one will give you info on weather during the year:

this one will give you all the ins and outs of the dining plan:

Stand in ride line. Buy overpriced food. Repeat until you and funds are exhausted.
