Jean Harlow, Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, and Marlene Dietrich. TCM is one of my favorite channels. I love old movies. I like these actresses because not only could they act, but their characters had a lot of spunk and strength.

Barbara Stanwyck ----- all things considered the best the most brilliant - - - yea, yea, Bette Davis made a lot of noise and had the same size cajones as Joan Crawford but if the three had ever shared a film, Barbara would have chilled to death. Poise beauty toughness. none of it an act - - - more wonderful movies than any comparable actress, even the trash on her resume is better than the best that many an A list actress of her times could conjur up. Katherine Hepburn was often amazing...
and one of my favorite single performances has got to be Barbara Stanwyck in "Double Indemnity," also perhaps one of the greatest movies of all time...
Extra credit to Ingrid Bergman in "Casablanca," still IMHO one of the most romantic movies ever...
