My period is 4 days late...granted, that isn't a lot, but I never miss them. I began testing a few days before expected period; is there any chance I could be pregnant? Are some women's hormone levels so low, they don't show up immediately?

Take a look at the box. I think it says something about a negative test not meaning you're out of the woods. Although, the box probably doesn't use the phrase "out of the woods." You know what I mean.
Let me know how it goes!

By four days after a missed period, a urine test should show -- especially if you are sure to use the morning's first urine when the hormone is most concentrated.

There are a few rare genetic conditions, like albinoism, where women who have the condition never show a positive urine test and must have their pregnancies confirmed by a blood test.

If you have been actively ttc and expect you know exactly when you conceived, start taking prenatal vitamins and wait for an appointment with the GP to do a blood test.

Yes, it is very possible. Upon conception, your body begins to produce "pregnacy hormones" that is what the HPTs pick up on. Which means one of two things, you can either wait a bit longer and try again or you can go to a doctor and get a blood test. Most HPTs say that they can detect it right away, but it's not true. Most can't detect until you are at least 3 to 4 weeks along. A blood test is more reliable and quicker. Although many doctor's offices will not test you until you have missed at least two periods. :(

yes its possible. If you are really worried talk to your doctor and ask for a blood test. Otherwise, just wait a few weeks and take a test again.

We've all heard cases where a woman is pregnant but the tests show negative.

An ultrasound, however, is fool-proof. If you get an ultrasound, you'll know for sure.
