I started as a baseball fan with the 84 tigers, until the 87 mets broke my heart. Then, i switched to hockey, but I couldn't see any games. Then, i started to like basketball in the Jordan years. But now, I love football. I just can't get enough. When there's no games on, I load up madden 02 and watch simulations. I don't really know why either.

So, my question is: what's the best pro sport now?

i'll let this go to voting. that poster is right: there's really no way a "best answer" i chose would be anything but a football answer.

I'm going to answer your question three different ways. In my opinion, baseball is the perfect sport. It's been around for over 100 years with virtually no significant changes to the rules. The balance between offense and defense is nearly perfect, so that the team whose players perform the best on any given day will nearly always win the game. Although you do need umpires to call the balls, strikes and outs, the game is rarely decided by anything other than the players actual performances.

Now as far as what is the best game to watch, I can understand that if you are not a baseball purist and don't appreciate the subtleties of the game, that you might find it boring. So I would say that here where I live in the US that probably the best game to watch is football. It's pretty simple to understand and there is a lot of action.

The third part of my answer adresses the best sport to actually play. I feel that the answer can be narrowed to two possible sports, golf or tennis, and that is because these are "life" games. You can pretty much play them competitively for your entire lives. My choice is golf, because that's the one I prefer to play, but I also think it's the best because it is man (or woman) against the course, rather than against another person. If you're 70 years old and you want to play a competitve tennis match, you have to try and find someone else with a comparable ability to your own, which might be difficult at that age. With golf, you just grab your clubs and hit the course. Four people of widely varying abilities can all play a round of golf together, and because each of them is competing against the course and not directly against each other, each of them can play a competitive and enjoyable round of golf.

Thanks for posting a great question!

Hockey

Because any one can run on the field
Any one can tackle
Any one can hit a ball with a bat and catch a ball with a mitt
Any one can bounce a ball on the hard wood and throw a ball in the hoop.

But how many people can Skate on the Ice then check someone going 30 mph and shoot at a puck going that fast and make the puck go 90-105 mph and try to beat the goalie in one of his five holes. not many... That's why Hockey is the best sport....
