Good news, hon! Sleeping on your back is the VERY best position to sleep in when you're pregnant. Take it from me, I have 4 kids.
It will only start to feel uncomfortable when your belly becomes very weighty and causes great pressure on your lower spine.
At which time you may have to switch to sleeping on your side. This may become difficult too, due to the softening of your pelvis. Solution: place a pillow between your knees to elevate the hip.
But sleeping on your back is wonderful. Allows you to pull in all the fresh oxygen that you and your baby need.
Rest well, lil Mama! And congratz!

You will know when it's time to sleep on your side. If you like to sleep on your back, do it. Prop yourself up with pillows and get comfortable. Later in pregnancy when you lay on your back you will be so uncomfortable that you will switch to your side on your own. It is perfectly safe for you to sleep on your back for now. Get as comfortable as you can now in the early stages of pregnancy because once you're 38 weeks (like I am) sleeping will seem almost impossible.
Best of luck to you and your baby!

You are not supposed to sleep on your back after 20 wks pregnant. But its good that you are getting used to sleeping on your side now. Since you seem to wake up on your back you can buy a maternity pillow that gives you support on your knee and goes around to the back. Here is a link. http://store.babycenter.com/category/maternity_pillows?s_evar2=pillow&s_prop2=pillow&_requestid=9608
I bought the snoogle deluxe pillow and honestly never used it. I just kept a pillow between my knees and sometimes put one behind my back to keep from going to sleep on my back.

Ive never heard of that before? Throughout both my pregnancy's i slept in almost every position including sleeping on my back which may i add was very comfortable, the only position i didn't sleep in was lying on my front for obvious reasons, your only around 4 to 8 weeks like you said, at your stage you can sleep in every and any position you want to sleep in, you wont harm your baby, mid to late pregnancy is when you'll find it uncomfortable sleeping on your front, your baby even at that stage wont come to harm if you slept on your front as its just you wont want to at that stage because as i said you'll find it uncomfortable lol, again mid to late pregnancy you can sleep on your back, you still wont harm your baby, there is no reason why it should, your baby is safer and much tougher than you imagine. Congratulations and Good Luck. x

Usually it's fine, until you get so big that you can't breathe when you do lie on your back!

When the little person starts kicking you on the side and poking and says, "Mommy, can you please turn on your side so I can kick somewhere else now?"
