I think an inconvenient truth is one that once you know it gives you responsibility for it. If you know global warming is real you have to do what you can to stop it or accept the guilt that goes with allowing it to continue. You can't say,"I didn't know.."
A convenient truth gives you nothing and requires nothing from you .

an inconvenient truth is unpopular, uncomfortable, or politically inconvenient.
A convenient truth would be a truth that was popular, comfortable, or politically useful and convenient.
