I have known mothers of twins who did manage to nurse exclusively. It's all about supply and demand. If you are putting the babies to the breast enough and staying hydrated, then you should probably not have a problem.

Get some support ahead of time. Contact your local La Leche League. You may be able to get in contact with some twin moms who have nursed through them. Plus, your Leader will be an amazing resource for information and support.

yes it is, drink plenty of water, take your prenatal and eat properly and you will produce just fine, you will know if the baby is not feeding enough or not hooked up correctly, it will hurt. Ask your doctor for information there are tons of stuff you can read about this. Formula is the supplement. you will get a lactating nurse in the hospital to help you, these days they make you feed in the delivery room right after the baby is cleaned (if health delivery) to have a better start at breast feeding.

YES! Mothers of twins most definately can. Of course you need to watch each child's urine and feces output carefully to ensure they're both getting enough milk, as it would be hard to tell with twins. I know that women with triplets can breastfeed exclusively (though it is difficult) and there was recently an article in Mothering magazine about a woman who had a masectomy on one breast and she breastfed her twins exclusively from her one remaining breast.

Yes, it is possible and I have known more than one person who has done this successfully - however it can be very exhausting - particularly if the babies don't wake for feeds at the same time. Also the amount of nutrients and fluid you need to take in to keep up also make it a challenge.

It's exhausting and I don't envy you, but you can do it. Find a doctor, midwife, or lactation consultant who will truly help you. If your OB is telling you that you can't do it, then he or she is not the right doctor for you. It will be very important for you to have the right support and information. Good luck!
