Alonso has light years to go to catch up with Schumi. With the technology nowadays, I doubt he'd be able to catch up on Schumi's accomplishments. Schumi is probably one of the best in the business, if not the best. Had Ferrari not been "penalized" with rule changes that supposedly focused on stopping the Schumacher/Ferrari dominance, I don't think his streak would have ended. Alonso shows promise but until he does string a number of championships, he still has a lot of catching up to do.

I am a fan of Schumi but though I have to admit that Alonso is talented, Schumi is definitely the better driver. He(Schumi) is not only talented but much more experienced and have managed to stay competitive for all these years he is in F1. The only one to achieve that.
Though Alonso has a title as a champion, he has too much work to do to come even closer to Schumi's achievements.

Schumi is a great rider but i think alonso is better. Alonso is young, and with more advanced F1 cars coming in the future, i think he can accomplish more than schumi, given the fact that he stay long enough in the F1 band-wagon.

it is good to see that new faces will emerge as a champion....I had no doubt since 2001 that Alonso is something....
but i do think that all drivers have more or less the same capabilities....given the right car...i think everybody can do what Mika, Jacques and past champion did but i dont think any person can do another Schumi....
Ferrari is not what it was supposed to be today back then...around 10 years ago...schumi build up the team.....good teamwork.....good people....
during his 1st 2 championship....MS really push the car limit.....everything including some bad tactics...dont forget Senna....
but alonso had a good car last year...
nowadays F1 really rely on cars....so anybody can do another Jacques or Mika (they had a good car when they won the Championship).....so I think we'll miss him...
p/s...dont know who to support next season....(sigh)

with 3 races to go, schumi trails alonzo by 2pts. me thinks schumi's experience will prevail over alonzo's.talk about retiring in ferrari blazing red fashion!!!
