Iron Maiden was one of the few pioneer bands of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) back in the 1980s. I think they did a great job as a band pushing this sudden new sound into Britain and over the continents to America and the rest of the world. Definitely not an easy feat to accomplish. They really brought melody and catchiness into metal accompanied with blazingly-smooth solos and solid clean vocals (especially when Dickinson came in). Most metal bands have been influenced by them in one way or another. Interestingly, it's usually the death/black metal bands who always seem to record covers of Maiden songs. Maybe it was due to the use of mascot 'Eddie' on all of Maiden's album covers, which i guess was pretty novel during that time.

I think they had a couple of really great songs. But they, like many other bands, relied on formula rather than courageous creativity. I think Nirvana was the ballsiest rock band of the century...they killed that atrocious noise that marked the late 80's and opened up the 90's to many new sounds and attitudes.

It's a horrible way to kill someone that iron cabinet allegedly built to torture or kill a person by piercing his body with sharp objects (such as knives, spikes, or nails), while the victim is forced to remain standing. The victim bleeds profusely and is weakened slowly and dies of a combination of shock and blood loss, if not asphyxiation.
Of course, the band is cool

Ive been a fan of theirs for 20 years. I have to say though that I still prefer their older albums over some of their more recent.

I think their are completely unacceptable, in the same way that the most people would not accept my favourite band: Throbbing Gristle.

At one point they were considered pretty cheesy. However, after the hair bands of the eighties, they look pretty credible by comparison.
