Which kind would you like to learn? There are books on almost any kind of stitching you can dream of (notice my name). Go to any craft store nearby, especially ones like Hobby Lobby, Michael's, or JoAnne's, and you'll find books on any kind of craft under the sun. If it's a simple craft, like cross-stitch, check the inside cover--they may show you the basics right there. Then work your way up. Start with simple patterns, and as you get better at it, work your way up. I cross-stitch on shirts, even, using a fabric called waste canvas. Once you get down the basics, you can do that even with simple border patterns. Good Luck!

Depending on what kind of stitching you are doing you can most likley teach yourself. It really isnt that hard.
I find cross stitch to be easiest.
Pick up a kit and read the instructions. Remember to keep your stitches going the right way, mark off as you go so you dont loose your place, and count, count, count your stitches.
Embroidery and crewel work I dont find that easy.
If you were more specific on what kinds of stitching you would like to do I might be able to give you a more detailed answer.
But for something that is fairly easy, takes time and looks good I would suggest cross stitching. You can pick up a kit almost any where .. just make sure that it says "counted" on it and not "stamped". Counted kits have charts where as stamped kits dont.. the design is printed right on the cloth and that can be confusing.
