How does this work? Why is a used stamp worth a monetary value that can be used to buy guide dogs? How much is each stamp worth? Can you buy anything else with used stamps?

Many charities collect used stamps, which they sell by weight to stamp dealers. The dealers break them down into smaller lots to sell to collectors. I haven't heard of this being done to buy guide dogs, but I'm not at all surprised. In England many churches have collection boxes for used stamps - there is always a good market. Each individual stamp is worth very little, but it all adds up.

Never heard of it, but some companies will donate money / equipment based on the effort put in by "fundraisers".

Compare to "walkathons" where people collect donations for walking. The walking isn't worth anything.
