If any of you take music theory and also live in Canada, you'd know what I'm talking about. My textbook doesn't cover Canadian performers and I've tried looking for websites but I can't find anything. Here are three that I need help on:

1. Glenn Gould (Bach-man)
2. Maureen Forrester (opera singer)
3. Joni Mitchell (Big Yellow Taxi!!)

If anyone knows about a website or something that talks about musical contributions about any one of these people, that would soooo great. Thanks in advance!!

Don't know much about Forrester or Mitchell, but I could tell you some things about Glenn Gould. He was one of the most remarkable pianists of the 20th century, and his fame was mostly based on his way of playing the Bach repertoire, immensely differing from what had been done before. If you listen to e.g. Swiatoslaw Richter's recordings of the Bach Wohltemperierte Klavier, even if it's beautiful, you hear a romantic way of playing Bach : lots of pedal, sound that would also suit Brahms sonatas, etcetera... Glenn Gould was the first one who got back to a more historically correct way of playing (although I think that this decision was instinctive and not the result of historical reflection). His very dicrete use of pedal, extremely articulated playing (resulting in his typical non legato style), introduced a totally new way of Bach playing : a style in which the deepness and greatness of Bach's works are shown within the limits of the baroque style (despite the sometimes very personal and excentric tempi he chose), without having to romanticize. Although Gould put a huge stamp on all the Bach playing after him, no one is able to do exactly like him, and nobody has the guts. There are some good films on YouTube, check this out e.g. : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVODxskoHFQ
