but I keep reading references to people being "mud" on these sites..is this a racial slur for someone who isn't white? I've never heard it before..at least not in Canada..I take it it isn't a complimentary term...but what exactly does it refer to ...colour?

that's a nasty term I haven't heard too often...but I believe it's a term the bigots use to refer to people who are mixed race. there's one racist gal I see on here all the time (Sicilian, something or other) who's always posting racist questions using that term.

The term used when someone is referred to as "his name is mud" or some similar comment, usually refers to being unpopular or looked down upon for haveing made a mistake or some underhanded behavior. I have never heard it in any other context.

Yes. It is a racial slur referring to someone's skin color.

It doesn't sound complimentary - whether it refers to colour or to a person's status in the eyes of another (what I imagine it to mean). I haven't encountered it though, so I don't honestly know.

BTW - yes I'm *REALLY* glad to be back from my hols - aren't you?

I personally haven't heard of that term being used either. However I would presume that it is used as a hate word towards black people. Why are so many people racist?

when John Wilkes Booth assassinated Lincoln, he sustained an injury. he was treated by a Dr. Mudd. Mudd didn't know Booth was an assassin at the time. Mudd was sent to prison for treating Booth. the terms your name is mudd or my name is mudd basically means that bad stuff rolls down hill and you live in the valley.

Da ben dan,
I think that it is in reference to a black person, derogatory of course. I also believe that it is in reference to those of racially mixed marriages.
