There are 2 separate issues here. One is with regard to your course, and the other is PR status.

For PR, refer to www.immi.gov.au, which will list all the requirements, including how many points are awarded for what criteria, and also how many points (total) you need to achieve to be eligible for PR. Currently that stands at 120 points, but changes from time to time. You get awarded points based on your education qualifications, your age, english ability etc, so it is best to do your own assessment. For maximum points, then you should consider all those jobs that are worth 60 points, eg, engineering, nursing etc. Some interesting ones worth 60 include interpreter and welfare worker! Check out form 1121i for the Skilled Occupation List which lists the points. To increase your chances for PR, choose an occupation from the skill shortage list as these are in more demand.

Based on the information above, your course choice should then be based on which occupation (upon graduation) gives you the maximum number of points, and choose that course in university. There is no need for you to be employed in order to apply for the PR, so just apply when you are almost done with your course. There are special exemptions and criteria for international students who are finishing or just finished their studies so take advantage of that. Details are again on the website.

Good Luck!

If you are in architecture, then you will have enough points because you will be in australia for 5 and a half years. You'll get more than the adequate points. But if you are staying in Australia for less than 2 years, then you need to do something or plan something.

40 I think, but you can increase your points if you speak any language listed. So check the languages and complete at least 3 spoken languages and your points will increase.
