Recently, bought a new sugar jar and as it is not air-tight, lots of ants appeared in and round the sugar jar. Left the jar open to allow the ants to crawl out but later saw lots of dead ants still in the jar with the the sugar. How to separate the dead ants and the sugar?

Gosh, return some soda bottles or something to make a dollar and go to the 99 cent store and buy some new sugar! Who would want to eat sugar with ants peeing and pooping in it!! They don't leave your sugar jar and go outside to do that! If you want to do something constructive with the buggy sugar, boil it for a moment, let it cool and put it in a pan outside for butterfly's and bees. I have two plastic sugar feeders, one for butterfly's...one for hummingbirds! But whatever...don't eat the sugar, please!

Ants In Sugar

Throw out the sugar.

If you plan to leave sugar out on the table or counter without a tight lid, lower the suar jar into a shallow bowl of water (make sure there is always a moat of water around the sugar jar). That is what we did with the sugar in our office. Ants couldn't swim over to the sugar jar.

If you have an air tight container, such as rubbermaid or tupperware, you could store it out with the lid tightly closed or in your refrigerator.

Are you thinking of keeping the sugar that has dead ants IN it?? DON'T. Throw it all out. Do not keep any of the sugar. You need to spray you kitchen for ants. My sugar jar isn't air tight, and I've never had ants in it.

Well you could use a very fine seive, but if it was me I'd just buy a new bag of sugar, it would be easier than trying to remove the ants

all have their side effects on the bodies metabolism and function to some degree, even if it is over a long time period. Splenda for example, has been tied to Thymus problems and migraine headaches. Aspartame has been tied to Cramps, Vertigo, Dizziness, Headaches, Tinnitus, Joint pain, Unexplainable depression, anxiety attacks, slurred speech etc.. Similar for Saccharine. So the ant ingests a tiny amount of Splenda (Sucralose) and because it is so small, that was enough to kill it. There is a warning here for you and your family. The ant was a "guinea pig" if you will, and you can see that it did infact have an ill effect. Just imagine what its doing to your body as you consume bowls of the stuff over the years!!! Be careful with your intake - would be my advice.

I hope you are kidding. Save up money and buy a pound of sugar for a dollar. Pour out the sugar that is currently in the jar. Put the jar in the dishwasher. Pour new sugar in the jar. Bingo.

Dissolve the sugar in water and strain with a fine mesh/cloth to remove the ants. Boil the sugar water and use the syrup for your coffee/tea/drinks or make desserts.
Not worth the work to pick them out individually if there are lots.
Else, just use it directly for cooking or coffee(and it hide inside) 'cos you are unlikely to suffer any health problem because of it.

Sugar is cheap. Throw it away.

Depends on the size of the ants. You can try shaking it through a sifter. I wouldn't actually "sift" it because that would grind up the ants. If they are big, you could try putting it through a collander.
