Right click on the D drive in my computer and select the sharing tab. You apparently have it set wrong.

You need to be a user with Administrative authorization. If this is your computer you should have access as administrator. You can try signing on as "Administrator" and leave the password blank. If that does not work you need help from a PC professional to get administator access.

Go to Start - My Computer - Devices With Removable Storage - D: drive - right click - Sharing And Security - Local Sharing And Security. You will then be able to share this drive with other users and use it to its best capacity.

i assume by D drive you mean the cd/dvd drive may i point out that you cant save anything on it without having some sort of disc in to put it on...
so try saving something on it when theres a disc in, just used a cd-r/rw first

1) Administrator account is standard on Windows. The "see administrator" means a person though. Where did you get the laptop? Who configured it?

is your d drive the cdrom, will it read cd's, is it a cdburner or is it a second partion on your hard drive need more info
