It is brake dust. It is normal, but a pain... Regular brake dust can sometimes stain your wheels and hubcaps, and can be hard to clean off and harder to keep clean. I have begun using ceramic brake pads i got at autozone for $17.99, and they are good. They are always quiet, and the best part is, the brake dust from ceramic pads looks like plain old dirt and mud, and washes right off and will not stain. I got expensive wheels, and they always look good. You can buy them almost anywhere, just make sure they are ceramic (not semimetallic or metallic)

Hello!! :o) It's brake dust - as the others have said. I have to wash my rims once a week - at least - on my car. The brake dust is that bad. A little helpful hint for you. When you wash your car - NEVER use the same rag on the paint as you do on your rims. Brakes dust and body paint don't like each other very much!! Craig!! :o)

it'[s brake dust. every time you step on the brakes, a little brake pad wears off, and some of it ends up on your rims. Just wash it off regularly, because it's corrosive, and will eat into your rims if you leave it too long.
