ok when the lord of the rings first came out i remember hearing that the original story is about christianity. i have only recently seen the first 2 of the trilogy and im wondering what the story behind the story is. i see the demon/"angel"--heaven/hell part and possibly the armageddon (end of days)????? but what does the ring itself signify (greed??) and the various characters (hobbits, elves, dwarves, etc.)

The Chroinicle of Narnia were a christian allegory - you're right - Lewis wanted to portray the battle of heaven and hell and ultimately judgement day and the ascension of mankind into heaven (the last battle)

The Lord of the Rings wasn't christian. It was a commentary by Tolkein about the industrialisation of the world, the destruction of the natiural world, and was particularly inspired by his own experiences on the battlefields of Europe during WW1 where he lost all of his childhood froiends who all joined up together

I heard this too and there is no real connection. JR Tolken wrote the books to give his motherland their own mythology, he never intended it to be a Bible story and it isn't. Its completely original.

I have heard several religious groups trying to claim it a Christian storyline but no bases or reasoning behind that claim. I think they are doing it because Tolken is dead and the Christian groups feel like they can get away with it. I think Christian groups using this movie to promote themselves is nothing more than a despirate grope at popularity. Even if Tolken and the movie creators were Christain and had values as such displayed in the stories, it isn't right to attemp to reinvent this guys masterwork for their own bennefit, especially since he's dead and can't speak for himself. If he were still alive, they would not be doing this.

The stories are more based on pagan mythology rather than christian. The whole christian thing was a myth perpetuated my christians in order for them to feel better about enjoying without the guilt. Many christian stories and rituals are adapted from old pagan mythologies and festivals.

It's just a story and you're supposed to enjoy a little fantasty and adventure. There is no sublimital message of every little thing. Plus why haven't you seen the last one yet. It's the best part of the trilogy.
