I think a lot of it has to do with that they want what we have. More freedom and less strife. And it's hard for other countries to achieve that.
The come to hate us for not sharing the 'wealth' per se. But how can that be possible? There will always be one country that has more of everything the others. Its how it was for the Romans and the British Empire. Its how it is for America.
Another reason is that America exports alot of their entertainment to the rest of the World and because of this they get a glimpe of our way of life and they feel threatened by it. They dont want the younger generation getting any ideas that might challenge their own belief systems.
And still others dispise us because in a sense we are in everybody's business but only if it will gains us any profit.
Take for instance the war right now.The rest of the world is tired of it as are many americans. And while the UN is trying to gain interest to stop the horrible genocide in Darfur everyone is so caught up in the war that is costing so much.
The US is like a rich bad tempered teenager that wishes o better itself but will get very angry and make others pay when ever it feels that it has been wronged.

A lot of Americans are seen as being insular - not knowing much about the rest of the world but the world would be a lot more boring had America never existed. No rock'n'roll; no blues; no Hollywood;no Motown, no Bilko, no Larry David; no Simpsons. And let's not forget that a lot of Americans paid the ultimate price in both World Wars to stop the spread of fascism.

IMHO it seems to be the whole Cowboys & Indians attitude they take to the rest of the world.
Their heads of state project this "We're RIGHT! You are WRONG!" and "Only OUR opinion counts" image. I don't think they realise how they come across a lot of the time. That combined with a very hightened sense of paranoia, used to keep it's own population in check, tends to annoy the rest of the world quite a bit.
I live in an area that is very international and the few Americans that are here seem to get quite an education in their first couple of weeks as to how their country is percieved. They genuinely seem oblivious to the bully boy tactics their forgein policy courts or that telling another country how to run itself might seem rude.
I'm British and I don't like what my government do and say most of the time but at least I'm aware of it. What worries me is that most Americans believe their own propaganda and then try to spread it. They do not realise that it is propaganda.
I don't know what the solution is but I know it involves Respecting the values of others even if you don't agree with them. For a country that has a Freedom of Speech act it's interestingly tight lipped.

265 million do, the rest of the 6.6 billion probably do not care, very few actually hate America.
Probably the same with Rome.
They are an immensly wastefull and spoilt people generally. They appear very proud of taking the resources.
If the Joule economy worked, then you would see that Americans are stealing others energy. However, the Gold economy rules, so silence is bought.

Why do so many people hate America (& I'm not one of them)? Simple ...Americans...
The American 'culture' is destroying the world. Crap US TV, crap music, McDonalds, Starbucks, Wal-Mart, Dodge, Apple, Microsoft, Walt Disney...
Americans are, with few exceptions, loud, brash, boring & know-alls. They take 'their' society with them wherever they go & leave it to dispoil the 'native' country. Living in the UK now is a bit like living in Boston except the buildings aren't as tall & the people are thinner.
There must be lots of good stuff to say about America. So why doesn't someone list them?

May be because America is trying to get everybody under her Flag.People are dreaming of Green pastures in USA which is considered the most powerful country where the statndard of living they think is higher than his homeland.A nightmare to lead a luxury living.People who love America are looking at it through only one angle but there is another direction to think about.

I have nothing against individual Americans, some are great, some are scumbags but you get that wherever you go, but American Policy sucks. why does the American government and some of their people think that they are superior and should police the world? We as Brits do not owe them anything, they only helped us in WW2 after Pearl Harbour. We have more in common socially with the Western Europe of today.

I heard an interview on the radio this morning that I agree with in regards to this - ever since the US "won" the Cold War and became the only real super-power, it became a target. As long as the US remains the only super-power, it will remain a target. Either another country has to step-up as a super power (could be an enemy or an ally), the US will just remain a target.
