Mauritius is quite a long way from land. Africa is the nearest continental land mass, as others have said, but many reference books and sources do not classify remote oceanic islands as being in any given continent at all. Mauritius is near enough to Africa to be probably best considered as part of Africa, but really there is no definitive answer.

Mauritius is an island off the east coast of Africa, it belongs to the continent of Africa.
Since the island is of volcanic origin, there are no indigenous people, everyone is a descendent of an immigrant.
It has great beaches and hotels have excellent service.
It's not just a beach resort, there are a lot of things to do and superb things to eat...
