There are a lot of people of Japanese descent in the US. Japan is a major trading partner with the US and many important high-tech consumer goods which are high-status items in the US are produced in Japan. And the US has now resolved all of the issues with Japan that came up during WWII, including internment of Japanese people in the US. The Japanese have also largely resolved most of their issues with the US. The Japanese have a great affection for unique US contributions to world culture such as rock and roll, jazz and country music.

Think about it....prior to WWII, Japan was a ruthless and communistic government that took advantage of its own people and those countries who were inferior. Since America kicked the crap out of them AND MADE THEM respect human rights and those around them, their own people have seen the "light" and now respect others, and for the most part, tolerate others rights. Since then they have prospered and joined the rest of the free world and are no longer a threat...as have other countries in the last century.
