We found our apartment with this service called apartmentfinders. They actually drove us around to different apartments. I don't know if they still exist, but it's worth looking into.

Also, remember that the Gold Coast is WAY expensive, LaGrange is costly--but reasonable. Oakbrook and Westmont and Downer's Grove are out in the suburbs, but will give you the most apartment for your money.

Aurora is not bad for price--but waaay stinking out there. The areas like Cicero aren't the best areas, but cost a little less.

Hope this helps.

In addition to rental companies, you can look for roommate wanted ads. This way you can see a variety of places. Looking at areas by car if you have one, then get out and walk at a variety of times in the day to get a feel of the areas. goodluck.

Just walk around the area you want to live in and look for signs on the places you like. Chi-Town, especially downtown is all high rises, they always have an opening.
