9/11 was a day of tragedy that never should have happened. Looking back, I realize that within the last 5 years, it has been advertised so no one would forget...not that anyone could...and movies have been made and what not. Americans and american families lost so much that day. But, it has not been made into a national holiday. Memorial Day is a holiday to remember those who fought for us. 9/11 should be a day of rememberence and reckoning. After 5 years, our men are still fighing. Our president does not wanna do much about it. Shouldnt we take this day to remember those fallen and give respect to those who are so brave to fight for us again? We have a secretary's day for cryin out loud, why not a rememberence day?

First of all, I am not saying it should be a day of celebration. Second of all, Pearl Harbor does have a day of rememberence. Third of all, if we can have secretary's day and teachers day and crap like that, which are all unnecessary holidays, then why not a day to honor our soldiers? I am not saying that everyone should have off of work or school or that we should all be happy on that day.

Yes, I am surprised to that after 5 years that a law has not gone into effect making 9/11 a national holiday and an observance day of remembrance. Pearl Harbor Day exists, December 7th, marking another day of tragedy in US history.

I think it was the most tragic day on american soil maybe ever. The huge difference between this and other tragedies is that the Americans were 100% victims. Our soil are people our way of life. That is why I am unsure why we chose to remember at all. To me we are saying hey remeber that day that we got completly blindsided and sucker punched. If it was up to me I would not give our enemies the satisfaction of knowing they one uped us and deeply upset an entire nation to the point that we are going to remember this day. It would be like Japan celebrated the day be dropped one on Hiroshima. Not gonna happen

I wouldn't call that a holiday! Holidays are made to be happy about something, how can we celebrate all those victims of 9/11? Its called Patriots day or something but I certainly don't believe we need to make it a holiday to remember this tragedy!

You do know that Pearl Harbor, the worst attack on our country until 9/11, is NOT a holiday, right?

And would you expect a "day off" for every thing that has ever affected anyone? If so I suggest you may want to try and live off the state and never work again.

I would have to work either way...not everyone gets to enjoy or recollect on national holidays, ya know. All people do is go out to eat, go to movies and do other crap...if the reverence was real, then yes, we should have it.

We are supposed to use Memorial Day to remember all our lost loved ones. But we use it to go to the lake and drink beer.
I think Katrina did much more damage to the US than 911. And people are still suffering from it.

I don't agree. Too much of the remembrance is caught up in what you call "reckoning" - we should be thinking about prevention, not revenge.
