Witnesses reported seeing a missile like looking UFO flying over Hilo airport on the Big Island of Hawaii during mid day on August 15, 2006. FBI and TSA were sent to investigate, but could not come up with any explanation. In other words, nothing was released to the public. The story was shoved under the rug. Major newspapers on the island did not carry the story. It was reported in the smaller journals. I saw the story briefly as I was standing in a bank line. What happened here?

Well, I guess it was such an obscure news event. There are so many things that we never hear about here in the US.

The Honolulu Star-Bulletin had an article about it. According to the Star-Bulletin, the federal agencies classified the sighting as "unconfirmed". Reports gave opposite descriptions of its direction and widely varying estimates of its size.

At Pohakuloa Training Area, 30 miles to the west, spokesman Bob McElroy said there were no military exercises using missiles.

So...I don't know what it was! Government isn't talking, or doesn't know. Maybe it was a weather balloon? It's really hard to tell based on the conflicting eyewitness accounts. There are blogs too that talk about the sighting but I don't think they're as credible as the Star-Bulletin, so they're not listed here.
