If it was the 15th of August would you write 8/15/06 or 15/8/06? Is the first version the way Americans write it and then the other version the way the rest of the world writes it? Thank you.

Yes, I think you are right about the diff between us and other countries. But the practical way is to put the year, the month and the date in that order.

Lots of times, the form itself will tell you how to input the info.

Otherwise, I write it like this: 11 September 2006 or 11/9/06.

But if you think there is a chance the info will be misunderstood, ask what format the reader prefers.

It depends on to whom you are writing. America uses the first version and other countries often use the second version. When the day of the month is between 1 and 12, it could easily be misuderstood by a European, but in your example, the European would probably know what you mean.

Diffetent parts of the world write there in diffetent ways. Some have the year first. But to be clear you could write it out in full "The 15 th August 2006)

That is the way the format is for america is 9-12-06.... for the military it's 12-Sept-06. It just depends on what format you are using...
