abilities. Now I am seriously thinking about it but have no idea how to put together a portfolio, who to contact, no clue about agents, publishing, etc. I guess I 'm stupid but all of my jobs had nothing to do with it nor is my degree program. Could anybody be of real help? Or at least point me in the right direction?

My professors are in the Human Service (mostly counseling) fields, so they have told me to seek more information elsewhere.

BTW - Compared to the way most write on here, I do just fine. When communicating via media, I usually use the grammar that does not alienate those who naturally have poor grammar. I do not want to appear smug.
If you are just trying to be helpful with your remarks, then please say so. There is no reason to be mean to somebody looking for real answers.

Thanks for your great comments. It really helps!
If I publish on websites, how can I protect myself from plagiarism?

But, rather retarded grammar, work at it, maybe you have some good ideas, I don't know. So, go ahead, write a book or two, you can first-publish them yourself, free. at - www.lulu.com - see what they look like, show them around, get your family and friends to crit them, then do another edit, print them again and go see some real publishers. You have to do it, not just talk about it. OK?

I am not being unkind, but I think you need to brush up on your grammar. You can find lists of publishers online, and submit your work yourself. It will be either accepted or rejected. If it is rejected, resubmit it to more publishers. Keep writing more, in case a publisher is interested in your work. I personally would only submit one thing at a time. This process will take time for your first work to be purchased, and if you are really talented, once you sell your first work, you should be well on the way to being able to make a living as a writer.

Published your stories on a website/blog.
I know some people who got into writing career thanks to their blog.
You could also try writing stories and sending them to various publications.
You could also possibly get a job at a local newspaper.
If you are in school, then try to join the school paper.

I think that you should talk to your professors about where to turn. I'm sure they have some sort of information on the subject.
