I've been looking all day. Does anyone know where I can find a reliable statistic on how much Americans spend on clothes. It could be a number or a percentage of their budget. I need this info to be fairly recent. Thanks.

According to the web sites I found, the average American spends approximately 5% of their income on clothes every year. I guess though that this would be a very hard number to figure out as people are very different in their spending habits. There is also a large disparity in the income earings of every American. So, while some people may only shop in designer shops, some only shop at Walmart. How do you really come up with a number for that.

Go to the library, and ask them to see the book that has all the census information for the United States in it. It is titled Statistical abstract of the United States. it has the percentage of absolutely anything and everything. I am sure you can find it in there. The book is like 7 inches thick. Hope this helps!

I don't think they spend a much. Because americans and other europeans most of the time live half naked.

So I don't know how much they spend...but I know they save a lot by wearing tweeny weeny pieces.
