Simple answer is that the ppl making 'war decisions' completely underestimated the insurgency. It has become ever so clear that we needed at least twice as many troops.
More complex answer is that the bottom line is that occupations never work. This is evident throughout history and the main reason is that it is human nature to eventually resent your occupiers.

Sunnis and Shiites were never truly at peace in Iraq, they were just too afraid of Saddam. The ones in his party totally dominated the scene and no one else could do anything or if they did they would be killed like the Kurds were.
The reason is Bush should have gone in with a huge force like 4 times what they did and gotten it done with quickly. The Iraqis respect strength.

foofoo,
It is a matter of percpective. If you look at Korea, Germany, Japan, Cosivoe, and other places we've been at for decades. You should have heard the Iraqi security forces have taken over most of the operations by now. The American revolution took much longer.
The truest answer to your question is how Iran and Syria have created an uprising thru infiltrating into the politics, society, and culture.
I think it has progressed at a phenominal rate when you consider Saddam was just toppled 2-3 years ago. Like I said, it is a matter of perspective.

Where do people like you get crap like this?
"Sunnis ans Shiites have always been aat peace in Iraq, there has to be another reason. If you have a legitimate one, please share it..."
So if I waste my time telling you the vast history of Sunni-Shiite bloodshed in Iraq and everywhere else they shared space, it would be what? Not "legitimate"?
There's no point talking to someone who clearly knows absolutely no History and equally clearly, doesn't want to know....
Grow up kid....

At the beginning the reason of this war were because Iraq has a lot of nuclear weapons, where are these nuclear weapons??!!!
Then the reason has been changed to be because Iraq has a strong relationship with Alqa'eda organization, yesterday US said that there were no relationship between old Iraqi government & Alqa'edah.
the third reason were to replace the democracy in iraq, but now a little baby can notice that a lot of killing, legaly money stealing, ..., etc.
tell me if you know a country worst than iraq?!!
Do you all think war could bring the peace? if yes, then i can tell you go to Africa, a lot of dictators there are killing people, thousands of people are dieing because they have nothing to eat & drink, if we are realy care about humanity then it would be better to fund these poor people, not to fund a great war.

The reason was that we really dont wanna go that deep with the iraqi war but the countries that are not in war were very interrested was what happening, and want to make another war like in iraq dont why switzerland was involved by the gadaffis but the main reason was...he was real closed for getting the truth out of the swiss former president otto stich....but the main reason is that the former president of switzerland was getting the thruth out of clinton affair...after that bush...later on maybe to the obamas...the swiss are the main trigger of this new war the war is made to topple up clinton...but bush enjoyed himself to much making a whole world of politics with europe ...ask me why does out economie did so well, we dont need the war in iraq so we wanted to act against the war the swiss want to keep all this in secret after the fall of gadaffi the former president of switzerland died the one who made thr truth out of this whole bullshitty war....where all the swiss fault first there was bil clintons reseignment the the president bush agreement of presidency the the war, rebuilding the worlds economie the war in iraq is the main thing to stop....typish swiss. They want the world under their stinky feets like swiss cheese that stinks.**** swiss **** otto stich.....

You saying that the Sunnis and Shiites were at peace deserves no response. It's hard winning against an enemy that blends in with population and hides behind its women and children in homes, schools, and mosques. It's hard winning against people who don't care who is killed in the process of their extremism. It's hard when the majority in that country can't defend against a few because the few are financed from many, many outside sources. It's hard winning a war when the rest of the world isn't behind you because of your people's immorality and arrogance.
This is all I can come up with now. But in the meantime you can look at all these other people's lame *** excuses of corruption, oil, the rich......whatever.

Because it aint gonna end until there is an eye-opening as to what their leaders are using their religion for....subjection! We have such a long way to go, and I'm surprised America has been so impatient (but what can you expect from a culture who thinks a microwave takes too long...) but we have a long way to go to help these people excersise their freedoms as a human being. They don't even understand this right now, and it isn't going to be an easy or fast process to re-teach these cultures as to what it is to have "human rights". But we, and the rest of the world, do recognize how important it is, and will carry on inspite of the opposion. And I am sure, God Blesses these actions!

I don't think that. Everything has an end. Just give them more time. How long do you think it took us to function as a country since gaining independence. This is not an easy process.

A war on terrorism is never ending. There can be no end, there will always be new people that don't like the US, and they will form more terrorist groups.
