It depends on what is important to you, that will determine what's BEST in the market, for me RECEPTION is majorly important, and believe it or not the actual PHONE can affect your reception, NOKIA is hands down the best reception of all brands.
SonyEricsson isn't as well known as someother brands but, it's a GREAT company that provides excellent phones.....
LEAST is undoubtedly (and MAYBE arguably) the worst manufactorer of cell phones, even the RAZR has had a VERY high return percentage.
if durability is what you're seeking, DO NOT go with LG, VK, or Sanyo.
The downside to MOST Nokia's is the keypad has a tendency to weaken after about a year.

since these phones vary in terms of features its difficult to say one is better then the other, but we can talk of top ten best phones and these are;
1. sony ericsson K750i
2. 02 xda II Mini
3. Nokia 8800
4. Motorola Razr V3x
5. Sony Ericsson W800i
6. Sony Ericsson W700i
7. Nokia 6234
8. LG U890
9. Samsung Z400
10. Nokia N80.
but from the list above Nokia and Sony Ericsson lead the way.

Nokia 6230i was the best you can imagine. I loved it so much. it has every thing to offer in a phone.
