If I use my waiver in fantasy football to pick up a player, but no one else does, does it still knock me to the bottom of the list? Or, does it process as a Free Agent claim?

That's the point of waivers. If you want a player bad enough, you gamble your waiver position in hopes of getting him. Even if no one else uses a waiver claim, you still lose your position because that's the price you pay for trying to get him early. You can take your chances and wait until he's a free agent, but there's some risk in that. If you really want him, use a waiver claim.

It will knock you down, but waiting can be an iffy thing. Depends on if your willing to chance someone grabbing the guy you want to keep your waiver spot.

It will knock you down to the end. If you don't think anyone is going to pick up the guy you want I would wait until he clears waivers to pick him up.

It still knocks you down, because you've put in the order before the player is available. If you think no one else wants the player, try to wait, to save your position.
