My 8 month old son has a very large Artial Septal Defect (ASD) and is scheduled for open heart surgery Oct 3 and I am scared to death. Anyone else been through this? I know this is a routine surgery, but it's being done on MY baby.

Distract yourself.

Do you have health insurance for the little guy? Spend some serious time being thankful for that.

With him less than a year old, he'll suffer a lot less because he has no idea what's going on. Focus on keeping the little trooper comfortable.

Pamper yourself and your wife. Go for long walks, take in a silly movie, give each other facials, do anything to ease the stress.

I do not know anyone who had had to go through this, but my thoughts and prayers are with you. I have a 9 month old and I couldn't imagine having to go through what you are.

Good Luck, and just know that it will all work out.

Wow, I wish I had some words of wisdom. I have never had to go through something this major with one of my kids. My heart goes out to you and I will keep your son and family in my prayers. Things will go well, keep your chin up and give your son lots of love. It will make you feel better.

Everyparent will go thru this anxiety. I will pray my God to give u and your family strength to face the crisis and good health to the child. It is easier said to be relaxed. keep positive thinking erything will be OK" never fear nor have negative feeling. Start thinking positive thoughts. Whever anyone asks u say he will be alright and he will be alright. "he is alright alright alright" u will be alright, the thought alright will set everything alright.
