I have to admit, I am not really sure what a free country means exactly. That might be because I have always lived here and take things for granted. Okay, so here it goes. Yes, I do believe I live in a free nation. I can say whatever I want where ever I want. I have the right to choose my profession and the right not to work at all if I don't want to. I have the right to talk endless smack about my government without great fear of reprisal. I can run for office if I want to. Our last president before Bush (Clinton of course) was not born wealthy or powerful. Not many countries can say the same. The typical citizen can leave the country anytime they want (excaped convics generaly cant). I do not have to show much documentation to get on a plane to another country. I do have to show a lot getting into the next country though, just like in the US. I get to have a role in overthrowing part or all of my government every two years or so and it is completely encouraged to do so. So yes I think we are pretty free for the most part. I am just not free from the other voters and what they think is right and wrong.

I can vote for my leaders. I can worship when, where, how or if I want. I can protest against my government without fear of them. I can travel where I want, I can work where I want. I can accomplish whatever I set out to do, limited only by my own ability. I can trust my military and my police. I can own a gun if I so choose. My wife can go to the store by herself. My wife can go to school if she wants. My wife can show her face in public. I can associate with Muslims, Jews, Atheists, Buddhists, whoever I want.

We have so many freedoms I couldn't possibly list them all. There are whiners and detractors out there, those that think freedoms are being taken away, don't believe them. Other than a longer line at the airport, my life has not changed at all since 9/11. My freedom is still in tact.

Yes we are living in a free nation..,NO ONE has me believing that..,I have a mind and can think on my own..,no brain washing here. What I am sick of is listening to idiots denegrate our country and our freedoms. We are always the first county that others call on when needing the financial help but as soon as the financial help has arrived its back to the same old America is evil.I have the freedom to make decisions,I have the freedom to work whatever job I want,I have the freedom of speech,I have the freedom of religion..,but that is being taken away thanks to the atheists that want to sue someone for wearing a cross to school or school group that wants to say prayers.I have the freedom of the education I wish to have,I have the freedom of not worrying that my President is not going to mustard gas me if I disagree with his politics,I have the freedom of knowing my daughter will not have to endure a female circumsion,I have the freedom of not having to cover my face and my body and not worry about the govt killing me because my skin shows,I have the freedom to listen to the music I wish..,And most of all I HAVE FREEDOM BECAUSE I AM AN AMERICAN AND SOLDIERS HAVE DIED TO GIVE ME THAT FREEDOM.GOD BLESS AMERICA.

Because I'm sitting comfortably in my home, dinking around on my computer, saying what I want to say, and then I'm going to go and sleep in my bed, that I bought with my money, from the job that I choose to have. Oh, and sleep by my husband, who I picked out myself for me, and then I'm going to think about my kids who I know are safe and warm (well, I hope) as they too have been able to go and do the same for themselves, due to this freedom that my grandfathers gave us. I might say a prayer, to a God I choose and then I'll sleep knowing someone is not going to come into my house tonight and kill me for not believing in something different! So I guess, that is why I believe it. And who has me believing it? I have EYES!

Could be that cruising down Route 66 on a Harley-Davidson type stuff. I don't see dissidents like Noam Chomsky or Michael Moore being sent to reeducation camps. As a matter of fact, they both make lots of money.

If your not free, youll never know. Your govt may confuse into believeing we just "think" were free, and there is no such thing. TRUE DEMOCRACY does not exist, but that is because it cannot co-exist with happiness and justice. Lets just put it this way we are free'er than everybody else. For the moment WE WIN.

Free to do and say anything that I want to as long as it does not physically hurt or take what is not mine from anyone. That is what makes Americans FREE!!!

I'm not American but I can safely say that since their Independance day they have prided themselves in being liberated. "The home of the free" in their anthem expresses this. I see where you're coming from but American pride sometimes overrules any sort of controversy surrounding their nation's values and system.

The only people who think they are free are the ones who haven't studied history and given the whole thing a lot of deep thought. Which is most people, I guess.
