Yes, some insurance companies do pay for methadone maintenance therapy. In fact, in looking over your question, I ran across a 1998 a National Institutes of Health advisory board report recommending that methadone maintenance therapy be a required part of any health plan. However, if your sister enrolls in a new plan, the insurance might not cover the treatment for a specified period of time. That’s because her substance abuse problem might be considered a pre-existing condition. She probably won’t qualify for Medicaid because of her job, but Medicaid should cover methadone therapy.
You might be able to get help through a charitable foundation. Your sister might also work out a payment plan with the place that will administer the methadone, since she has a job now.
Whatever your sister does, she should continue the therapy. And I disagree with an earlier answerer about divulging information about her addiction. While she might not want to volunteer the information, it is fraud to lie about her medical history.

You probably DONT want your insurance company knowing about the methadone. It will forever follow her in her mediacl records and raise her premiums. She may in the future have difficulty obtainingmedical and life insurance.
Ask the doctor directly if they can help with the cost or of there is a methadone clinic in your area.

Medicaid should cover it.
They don't usually cut people off of methadone, especially when they are in the midst of recovering.
The new insurance company may call it a preexisting condition.

First of all, DO NOT GO TO http://www.freemedicine.com/. It's a fraud site.
Secondly, your medical history is private. You'll sign a legal document (HIPAA...http://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/HIPAA/) protecting your privacy in every office you visit in the U.S.
It's irresponsible to warn a recovering addict to fear honesty.
GOOD LUCK to your sister. GOOD FOR YOU for supporting her. She's lucky to have you; this isn't the sort of thing you escape alone.
I digress; Insurance. Melinda is right, the best thing you can do is call.
Start by making a list of providers (https://www.healthcare.gov/ ...Obamacare's new system has a "for-Dummies" feel to it, if you're intimidated by the sheer number of choices out there).
You'll want to list the providers you feel would be easiest to budget.
Then just call each provider on your list and ask to speak to someone who can answer some dumb questions. That should get a laugh out of them :)
Good luck.

Every company if differant get the number for the company she is going to sign up for and call them, that is the best way to find out. not all companys cover the same things, some companys are real cheap skates. Plus if it does it might only under certain rules and you have to find out what they are and get your sissters doctor on board to push and prove she needs it. Good luck
