I was heading for work. I'd heard about the first plane and my inital thoughts were "How could some dumba$$ fly into such a huge building?" But when I arrived at work, Rick Dees on KIIS FM 102.7 Los Angeles told us about the second plane. Then I knew that something was totally wrong. The store that I worked for made us stay open until 6 pm even though there weren't any customers and the mall had shut down by 1 pm California time. Most of us stood around hugging each other and crying and wondering why we had to stay open when we should be at home with our families or at church praying for everyone.

I regret to this day and I always will my inital thoughts. My only excuse is that I didn't know and never dreamed that something like that would ever happen outside of movies or books.

I went to school in Brooklyn. I was in my English class looking at it from across the river! My classroom window faces the towers! All i remember was thinking about my cousin that worked in the building then my father worked about 2 blocks away and my aunt and uncle that are both cops they were all there in the middle of it! It was very scary to see it! It almost was like watching a movie but very very real! I thank God most of the people i knew came out ok! But they smelled like Death on them when they came home after no sleep for about 4 days! My aunt was there counciling other family members and co workers! My uncle was there helping find people and bodies! It was a very scary thing to see! I still get chills over it!

I didn't know about the attacks until I got to work, I don't watch TV in the morning. They closed our building. Someone, in passing, sort of told me what happened. I rushed over to church, it was the place I wanted to be. I sat in the sanctuary for a long time, watching others come in one by one, sink to their knees by the pews. We just prayed.

When I got home, and turned on the TV, that is when I saw what had happened. In all my life I've never seen anything like it.

The president said something tonight that made me cry. He said the terrorists wanted to bring us to our knees when they did this. He said, they did bring us to our knees, but not in the way they wanted to. They brought us to prayer before our God. That was what I was doing five years ago, that is what I will continue to do, for all the broken hearts in New York....and for our enemies.

I was home asleep,my daughter was home from Army basic training and woke me up, "mom,we're at war", I wake up to what the hell, the phone is ringing off the wall, her brother is in the military also, we watched the second plane hit, and my daughter started crying uncontrollably. I knew what just happened. She cried for four hours, finally passing out in the chair. Sept.11, happened on a Tues., we had to put her on an airplane that Sat. for her to go to her assigned base and couldn't walk her to the gate. Two elderly ladies walked up to her and told her thank you, she didn't know why they did that, but I did. My husband and I gave her a hug at the security check point and she started crying, her father and I never felt so helpless in our child's life till that day. When I got home I wrote this poem:

At home sleeping when my husband told me to turn on the TV. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. This was the most horrific event in the USA I could remember.

The families who lost loved ones or friends, my prayers are with you all today. It saddens me to see those who are not able to move on with their lives.

I don't know about you but I am really pissed off. The more I think about these terrorist the madder I get.

My (ex) husband and I were in Nags Head, NC on vacation, I first thought I was watching a Bruce Willis movie (I had the volume down so as not to disturb anyone) I was floored when I finally realized it was real, very, very sad day. I will never forget the shock...

I heard about it the next day only, was cut off from TV and all communications the day before on a hiking trip.

Thought it was a joke which turned out sadly and sickening true.

I was with my mother-in-law, I was taking her to the grocery store, she wanted to stop and see a family member of hers. That's when we heard the horrible news on the radio.I rushed to both of my children's schools,I will remember that day forever.I was so scared for our nation and all those precious people who lost lives, due to the idiots, who decided to become America's judge and jury all in one day!
