My sisters and I are intersted in purchasing a router to hook all our computers up to. We have:

Dell Inspiron Laptop
Compaq Presario Desktop
HP Pavilion Desktop

The laptop is equipped with a wireless card and broadband hook up.

The desktops have broadband hook ups as well.

I was looking at this router:

The Linksys® WRT54GL Wireless-G Broadband Router

Any suggestions on the correct item I need if this one is incrrect?

Yup - It'll do fine. It handles both -B and -G wireless so your laptop can almost certainly connect wirelessly. The router can handle up to 4 wired connections, so your desktops are OK, too, even without buying wireless cards.
On the other hand, I agree with CompDan - While Linksys makes good equipment, I prefer NetGear...

First make sure the laptop has G-type wireless which it should, and this router will work just fine for what you want to do. Although in the past I have had troubles with using linksys wireless and I actually just bought a new NetGear router which hasn't had a single issue!

Once of the desk tops can hook directly to your cable. The other will need a wireless card if you don't have an easy way to hook up the cable.

I run 3 computers, and 2 palms off my my wireless. I have the same one.

Hint: If your printer has wireless capability, and it is an HP, uninstall it then re-install it as a wireless. I played with it for 3 days, trying to do the changes they say to make it play with the other computers, out of frustration, I uninstalled and then 10 minutes later it was running as a wireless. I have an HP 2510

I have a Linksys WRT54GL. Like most LInksys "wireless" routers, it also has spots for 4 cables. If you had to you could plug stupid hubs into the router for more wires.

The router has a total limit of 255 wired/wireless systems, you should do just fine.

Of all of the routers, I like Linksys the best. The setup is easier than Netgear and they are owned by Cisco. You didn't give the specifications of your home, but if it a large home you might want to purchase the super-g router for a stronger signal.

Well, you can't hook up both desktops to ethernet, so you will have to get one of them connected just by USB, laptop will be connected wirelessly, and you'll be all set! :)
