darling, i just got one thing to say to you...
why would you wanna go and do something like
that to your pretty face... if indeed you have a pretty face...
because if you dont have a pretty face, you may as
well just go and pierce it. pierce it all... then when you take out the rings or studs or whatever, your face will be like a colander
and some guy who needs to drain his spaghetti will look at you and before you know it, you have 3rd degree burns,
... it just goes to show you, it's always something! If it's not one thing, it's another!

Oral piercings can cause problems with existing dental work.
Constant playing with the barbell, and how it rests on your gums can lead to gum erosion, tooth chipping, enamel wear and more.
Its probably not a good idea, although it can be done.

Keep in mind that a piercing, is fairly cheap compared to the hundreds of dollars in dental work that you could have to pay to repare your caps.

If you are going to get it done anyway....which many people choose to...you have to get a surgical stainless steel bar to start with. This bar is longer in size and is sterelized in an autoclave. It allows for swelling and cleaning.
After your tongue heals, in about 2 weeks, you should change it to a smaller bar with acrylic beads. Acrylic beads are unfortunately more likely to break, but they come in a variety of colours, shapes and sizes and best of all they are less likely to dent, chip or destroy your teeth.

Okay, first of all, it's not ackward to kiss or eat except for the first week or two. I have mine done and it's just like having a normal tongue lol. But to answer your question, it may cause sensitivity to your teeth because having too much metal in your mouth isn't exactly a good idea. But, it shouldn't have any long-term effects, might just irritate your mouth, but nothing you can't handle! (Just be careful of playing with your barbell, don't run it across your teeth or tap it against them even though it is amazingly fun for some odd reason....)

they could interact with the stud, causing a low frequency hum that will eventually blow the top of your head off. But until that happens, the buzz will be quite pleasant.

They cause dental problems and if you get an infection it can actually hurt your heart, please really look into the overall heath risks associated with that piercing!
