First off, not one of the previous answers gave fully true information.
Most states allow commitment cerimonies, as these are NOT legally binding cerimonies.
Only Vermont grants Gay Marriages, but these are not portable to other states.
Only Mass. grants Civil Marriages to gays, these are also not portable to other states.
Conneticut allows civil unions but they hold no legal weight and are not recognized in any other state, similarly to Vermont and Mass.
NO STATE GRANTS FULLY PORTABLE GAY MARRIAGE/CIVIL UNIONS.

I'll completely second just_ine_credible and add my 2 cents. The reason Mass. same-sex marriages aren't portable is because of the defense of marriage act that Clinton signed. It allows states to not accept a same-sex marriage performed in another state. Massachusetts is currently the only state that allows actual civil marriages. There are over 1,000 rights at the federal level tied to a marriage certificate. Those aren't available to same-sex couples that get civil unions or other things like those offered in Vermont and other places.

I know Massachusetts and Canada Are legal binding for marriage. I believe almost all states have commitment ceremonies. (Except Alaska) Which really suck because that's where I live.

My Atheist boyfriend says it truly is not organic. From a clinical attitude, it truly is not. The sex area, besides. Marriage is only a criminal bond and is a funny tale lately. enable them marry, they're only going to get divorced like such various contained in the hetero international. No massive difference, truly.
