My 9 month old does this when she is teething. Once the tooth comes through the teeth grinding should stop. If it doesn't you can always ask the baby's doctor about it. I would think it's okay though since it is just baby teeth and not permanent ones.
Good Luck!

Don't you just hate that sound...it drives me absolutely crazy!! Unfortunately, I think just about every baby goes through a stage of this at one point or another. Some do it because of teething, others do it just to make a cool sound. Yes, if it goes on long enough it can cause damage to her teeth, but usually it only lasts for a week or 2. The big thing is not to react to the sound of it, and to make sure she's not doing it out of pain. Try giving her something interesting to play with to distract her from doing it. Talk to her constantly and try to get her to "talk" back...that way she'll be too busy to grind her teeth. If all else fails, a call to a pediatric dentist might yield some helpful tips too!

It's a stage. My daughter who is 11.5 months old grated her teeth. Oh it was awful, like nails down a chalk board. Everytime she would do it I would stick my finger in her mouth and yes sometimes she would bite me. She doesn't do it anymore. I'm not sure if it is harmful to their teeth but I can't imagine it is good for their teeth either. Good luck!

As far as the baby's teeth, it will get adult teeth later. However it is possible the baby can do harm to the gums. Best advise is to consult a dentist or an orthodontist.

My daughter did this when she was teething. If that's the cause, when the pain goes away the baby will stop. I would recommend baby tylenol and teething tablets to help ease the discomfort.

Grandson did this and it drove us nuts. But now as I look back, he only did it when he was teething. He went through the screaming at least 5 times too. Get ready for that next.

My nephew did this, eventually my sister got him a mouth guard. Some people do. It causes headaches, and TMJ, but I don't know about in a child so young... Try to distract him, or give him something to put in his mouch...
