I personally thinkk Lipitor is a horrible drug. My husband was on it and he had such muscle aches and pains, he had to quit. It took about 6 to 8 weeks for the symptoms to disappear. Google the drug then go to a website and get the rare side effects. If you think it could be, get her off of it.

Lipitor and related drugs (the statin group) call ALL cause terrible side effects - among them is memory loss and some cerebral clouding or fogginess. There are other horrible toxic effects on the liver and kidneys, it breaks down muscle tissues badly. I hope your mom stops the drug ASAP.
She can substitute a natural remedy SYTRINOL. it's OTC, will do the same benefits as LIpitor without the harmful toxic side-effects. Buy it at the health food store.
My doctor insisted that I take Lipitor - I wouldn't no f-ucking way, ever. I threw away the Rx. I will never take a statin drug.
Keep in touch - let me know how your mom does with the natural remedy. God be with her & make her well for you. It would give me joy to know that your mom is taking Sytrinol & that she does well on it, and that I was able to help another person get better.
With every good wish.

I frankly don't know whether memory loss is one possible side effect of Lipitor, but I Googled the statin drugs and was so scared by the side effects that I chose an alternative method of lowering my cholesterol by diet alone. In another month I'll get a follow-up lipids profile and will know whether it's working, but I have no doubt that it will help.

In the meantime, while I am NOT prescribing, here are some of the things I am doing to lower serum cholesterol.
- oatmeal, with added wheat & oat bran (1 T.) Whole grains and bran combine with cholesterol and remove it from the body.
- lecithin, available at natural foods stores. I add a T. to my oatmeal. Lecithin breaks up fats (that's why it's in ice cream etc.)
- cinnamon, 1 tsp. in my oatmeal and anywhere else I can add it. Research suggests that it is instrumental in lowering serum cholesterol.
- blueberries, 1/2 C/day.
- almonds, 1 handful/day.

Finally, avoid all fatty foods. This includes fast foods, fried convenience/frozen foods, foods fried at home (broil instead, or sauté in olive oil). Remove chicken skin. Trim all visible fat from steaks and chops. Eliminate margarine (it's a trans fat, more deadly than animal fats) and use butter sparingly.

This is not rocket science. The info is available on the Web. Don't take my word - do some research yourself.

Lipitor may benefit Alzheimers patients but does NOT contribute to Alzheimers. She should be examined for minor strokes.
