The tint I want to get off is on the back window, which has the defrost lines in it. How do I get the tint off, without messing everything up?

A good hair dryer, stiff plastic scrapper small to medium size. Heat the window tint at a corner or the window where the lines are not at. The scrapper should give you a start. If you break one of the lines, curtians! Take it to a pro.

Steam is the answer you're looking for. It softens the adhesive behind the tint making it fairly easy to scrape off. There are handheld steam machines, primarily marketed for clothes wrinkle removal, for sale pretty cheap. Use this and some type of nylon scrapper to get the tint off first and then follow up with a citrus based glue remover available at most retail stores (Wal-Mart). Oh, and good luck, it will require a little elbow grease.

locate a left handed heavy blunt object ie large hammer, draw said instrument behind head, swing forward into said object of frustration.
this has many applications and can be repeated until object is fixed or broken and needs replaced which will then solve the aforementioned dilemma.
