The 'real estate is...boring' part is disturbing. Being without real estate could be so boring it hurts! The 1st thing I would advise is to VISIT the UK enroute to another location while leaving the house intact. A few hundred thou isn't going to be spent without severe loss of options cur'rent'ly enjoyed. Surely, the cost of living in Nicaragua must be very inexpensive compared to zillions of other options but the next horizon should include a very moderate rate of lifestyle support. The cost of living anywhere seems to be skyrocketing & the hedge of your English property should never be sacraficed because of boredom. Get a grip! Recount your blessings & find satisfaction in your successes. You would risk all your assets by making the wrong choices. Since there are probably very few less expensive places to live, I'd be good & certain all Nicaraguan options are completely explored before making any serious moves. I'm in Australia due to the high cost of living in Hawa!! There are many drawbacks but boredom isn't one of them. At least we enjoy a nice lifestyle without paying through the nose! It's GOT to be better than those Chicago or English winters! Best wishes!!

Make the money grow for your future, don't waste it all away. Try to invest it with a little business or deposit it in the bank if you still don't know what to with it so that it will earn some interest. If you're willing to take the risk, go and buy some stocks from the leading companies in the country. There are chances that stocks return a lot of profit. But if you like to spend it, I suggest you take fun trips to different good places.

Open a business of my own. There are lots of ideas running round my head for shops business' etc but they are secret.
Any way, real estate is boring, so is shares, bonds and (god forgive me) high interest saving's account's. Why swap one boring investment that gives great income and is guarenteed to increase in value over long term for something that can lose all your money? If renting is boring, try re-development? or just use your money to entertain yourself further?
Go to the Phillipines, buy a Mansion for a couple of grand and live like a king with your money (beleive you have to be married to local to buy property there) or rent a place yourself. Philippines is just an example, there are lots of places in the world were GBP 150,000.00 (USD 292,500.00 / Euro 231,000.00) can allow you to live the life of royalty.

Do some meditating on this. What is in your heart? What are your hobbies? Where will you be happiest? Maybe if you buy a surfing store...& sell products as well as expand to Scuba.
You can make money from tourists & still have time to enjoy life. Good luck.

If I had £150,000 right now, I would buy a house, cause I can't afford to get a mortgage at the moment - and there is no way I'm renting because the landlord gets the benefits.

I make 15 % of £1,000,000 exactly £150,000. This is the normal deposit required for the typical buy to let mortgage. If you find a £1 m property portfolio that could generate a healthy income for you boring then just go to Vegas & put it on black. That'll get your adrenalin going.

save it... invest it... but why give up the rental cost if it allows you to surf your life away? That sounds relaxing!
