Salmon P Chase was on the $10,000 bill. Actually still is, that is the highest denomination US currency it is legal for a person to own. The remaining $10,000 bills are in collections. If a bank gets a legitimate one, it turns it in to the Federal Reserve.

He was Lincoln's Secretary of the Treasury, and from the second wiki article:

" Most recently, in order to honor the man who introduced the modern system of banknotes, Chase was on the $10,000 bill, printed from 1928 to 1946 (this bill is no longer in circulation)."

Of the bills currently in circulation, Ben Franklin on the $100 was not a president. Alexander Hamilton is on the $10. (Salmon Chase on the $10,000 bill.)

They were chosen to honor the things they did historically for America.

Ben Franklin. He was a founding father. Also, he was a leading printer, scientist, inventor, civic activist, and diplomat. As a scientist he was a major figure in the history of physics for his discoveries and theories regarding electricity. As a political writer and activist he, more than anyone, developed the idea of an American nation, and as a diplomat during the American Revolution, he secured the French alliance that made independence possible.

Good ol' Ben (Franklin).

Why? I think he was somewhat important to many different things that had to do with this country. Maybe he was the one that did the printing. . .
