there are some things we have to keep for ourselves... there are some things we have to share... the balance of it lies on you. ignore people who don't see your logic. the world doesn't revolve around them. your world is your own. you make your own standards. if they can't see it your way, then let them have theirs and just continue on with your life. "hell, i don't care if you don't like me. i am what i am and i enjoy what i do.so long as you don't bother me, i won't bother you too"... that's the philosophy of living in this world. fight back to survive. don't be the loser, be the WINNER...

This thought had been in my mind for a long time, your question has brought my doubts to light. In the past, I give my all to the one love, things I do - it can be called passion. In the end, I felt so drained out and burned. I feel that it's time not to lost myself anymore which I felt suffered much.

It's not wrong to be selfish, it's trying to get my stand back. You will just need to show that you're strong, nobody is able to force you to do anything against your wish. It's the reaffirmation of oneself and my thoughts too. Be happy. I want to say thank you for the question again. Oh as for those people, just ignore them. There's definitely someone, somewhere, out there who will appreciate for whom you are.

Selfishness is actually a positive moral quality. Greed is a negative moral quality. Covetousness is also a negative moral quality. People who covet try to get you to confuse selfishness with greed so that they can shame you, or make you feel guilty, so that you will give them what they want of yours.

Either way, you've been had. If you keep things for yourself you are condemned, and if you give things away you are scorned..

For a much more articulate explanation of this phenomenon, and others, read the philosophical novel, Atlas Shrugged, by Ayn Rand.

There is a book based on objectivsm "The virtue of Selfishness" by Ayn Rand.
Even otherwise, the ultimate selfishness lies in ensuring a joy that stays, and cannot be snatched away ! Slowly the joy giving process is in giving up material greed !

Sounds like a heavy life situation.
Is it wrong to be selfish - perhaps, but it is definitely going to be lonely.
If you want to ignore people the ways are numerous, easy to do, and painful to reap the results:
leave the room when they enter;
eat at a separate time / or place;
don't take their messages on the phone;
ignore their banging on the bathroom door when you are in a good soak.

Some people (children of alcoholics) mistakenly believe that standing up for their rights and doing things to protect themselves is selfish. It is basically a misunderstanding of the definition of selfish.

It is not nice to be selfish. To avoid people taking advantage of you, you just have to learn how to be deal with them. Be more giving to your family, friends(I mean, true friends!), and to the needy. Avoid mean and lazy people. They'll really get the rest of you. Don't mind the weird looks from the parasites, cause they're the ones who are selfish.

You have to take care of yourself before you can be of help to others in need. You can't help people who won't help themselves. You would be just spinning your wheels. It seems like people want everything I have and they can be so helpless. I try to avoid users as much as possible. But it's difficult because they're all my neighbors and they're always in my face asking for favors, rides, money, groceries, gas, etc. I know how you feel. Sometimes I think about moving away from them and starting over. Good Luck!...)(

There's nothing wrong with being selfish. If you've realized this, the people accepting the stuff you're giving away stuff to are selfish themselves- ask them when they've been unselfish and they'll either go blank or tell you a lie to your face.

You will never be happy as long as you are selfish. Just do something nice for someone else and you will see how good it makes you feel.
