The players, no, but their fans should be. They have the mentality of a scorned woman. It' like they can't let go of the fact that the Yankees have generally had their number throughout the history of baseball. I bet that if the Red Sox went 18-144 they would be happier than if they had won a world series, if those 18 wins were against the Yankees. The only thing embarrassing about Boston are the fans. And by the way when everyone talks about injuries, I think the Yankees had a hell of a lot more than Boston! No excuse beantowners!!!

Considering what happened to a lot of their key players and like Matt said "Theo said this is a rebuidling year", I think the Red Sox have done pretty good. Granted the Yankees gave up a lot of money to get where they are now
Theo was not willing to give up Jon Lester and other good players just so they could make the playoffs.
I am not embarressed to say I am a red sox fan nor should anyone else be embarressed to say that they like the Yankees, Mets, Indians or even the Royals.
Be a real fan be loyal to your time through the good times and bad.

The team itself shouldn't be embarrassed. They played the best they could with what they had. Thier front office on the other hand, should be thrown to the wolves. Letting Johnny Damon go, trading Arroyo, giving up two great young kids in thier system for Becket, and not trying to make a deal before the deadline has really hurt them in my opinion. Couple that with a ton of untimely injuries, and the level of talent in the American league, it's a tough year.
Damn, as a life long Yankee fan, I feel dirty for defending the sox, but it's an off year, and I expect them to be back in the spring.

Embarrassed? No way. They've had key injuries after the second half that helped them lose a lot of games. Matt Clement, Jason Varitek, Manny, David Ortiz etc etc. Without those guys the team is patchwork. Couple that with bad pitching performances by Schilling, Wells and Beckett theres your bad season.
But give credit where credit due. The Yankees are playing great ball. They have the second best record since the break and look like they're cruising.
Go Yankees!

I agree with Mick 7. Every time I go to New York and watch a Yankees/Red Sox game, the Rod Sox fans always start fights and the police spend the entire game breaking up those fights. Hell man, it's only a game. I'm a Phillies fan so I never have that much to cheer about but we Phillie fans don't act like that.

I seem to remember Theo spinning this year as a rebuilding year before the season started. It was great leading the AL East through July, but the Red Sox are under .500 against the AL. They were 16-2 in interleague play, when they built up their lead. Where are Matt Clement, Lenny DiNardo, Keith Foulke, Jon Lester, Jonathan Papelbon, and of course Manny? Injuries to key people really hurt this year.

they should be embarrassed, but the Redsux didn't LET Yankees didn't "take" anything. They've proven to be the better team this year, just like most other years. The thing that should embarrass the Sux most is that they've COMPLETELY fallen out of the playoff race in horrible fashion. They pretty much quit after the Boston Massacre '06
"OLD SCHOOL" sites "injuries" as Boston's problem, but thats hogwash when compared to the injuries endured by NYY starters this year. Typical Sox fan excuses...

Good for you! (to whoever asked this question)
Anyway, I don't believe any team, no matter how great should be embarrassed by losing or "choking." It happens to the best of us. Look what happened to the Yanks in the A.L.C.S. in 2004, as a perfect example.
