I think Shaun Alexander is overlooked, and he is a close second, but I'd still say that Tomlinson is the best. He's fast, powerful, blocks well when needed, and catches the ball extremely well.
Larry Johnson is also a strong contender, but he needs to do it for two or three years in a row to get that kind of consideration. Portis is probably also in the top 5. And I'd put Tiki Barber in the top 5 as well.

Tomlinson is still #1.

He easily one of the top 3 or 4 running backs in the NFL playing today. THE best, nah, Shaun Alexander is the current NFL MVP, there is a reason for that. LT is younger than Alexander so his time could be coming in the future.

1200+ rushing yards in all of his first 5 years in the nfl. 9800+ total yards- 5 years in. Has passed for 4 touchdowns the past 2 years and holds a 153.1 passer rating. Enough said. Best PLAYER in the nfl.

For right now yes, but there are a lot of good ones out there such as Larry Johnson, Shaun Alexander, LaMont Jordan, and Clinton Portis.

its LT baby!!!!..i mean dude..but he puts up insane numbers every year..LJ hasn't done that..and there was no Alexander talk till last year..and LT didn't have the great O Line alexander had..Hutch is gone and Alexander is already struggling..and LJ had a great line too..what is he doing without Roaf and Richardson..didn't do much..only like 68 yards rushing..LT the most versatile..and the best all-around back
